Tuesday, 21 May 2013 – Gibraltar, London, Harwich

Tuesday, 21 May 2013

Got up and went for a short walk after breakfast. I then caught a taxi to the Gibraltar airport and boarded my Flight.  Arrived at Heathrow Airport and then had to get myself to the railway station to go to Harwich where I was staying for the night prior to my Baltic cruise. By the time I got through the formalities at the airport, I was starting to feel tired. Finally found which train I had to catch and when I got to Harwich, it was now 5 and 1/2 hours since I landed at Heathrow. Booked into the Hotel Continental, had a quick bite to eat and went to my room and fell into bed absolutely exhausted.

Monday, 20 May 2013. – Gibraltar. – 3rd day

Monday,  20 May 2013 – Gibraltar. 3rd Day

Woke to another lovely morning.  Cable cars up and running.  People walking their dogs with plastic bag in hand to pick up any droppings, cars and motor bikes all on the go. Down for breakfast and at 10.30 Sylvia and Paddy came to the hotel and shortly after, we were picked up by Pat from the Tourist Information Centre and she would be our guide/driver.

Have to come back into this post later when I find some information.

Friday and Saturday 17 and 18 May 2013. – Start of the big trip

Friday. 17 May.  The day has finally arrived for my start of my adventure.  Woke up early only to find my clock was an hour fast.  Finished my packing and at 6.30 Peter picked me up and drove me to the airport.  Put my case through to London.  Had to then wait until boarding but plane delayed by half hour.  Finally took off at 9.30.
Arrived in Sydney and then longish wait for flight to Abu Dhabi.

Was a very long and tiring flight and then another Long wait until 2.35 local time to board flight for London.  Arrived on time at 7.00 am.

Another Customs clearance and then onto underground train to Terminal 3 to board flight to Gibraltar. Finally there on time and met by Sylvia and hubby Paddy who took me on a drive around the streets of Gibraltar before taking me to my hotel. image
Thought I was going to have a rest! Decided to change and take the cable car up to the top of the rock. What absolutely fantastic views. Bought a coffee and then went to seek out the monkies. Really fun watching their antics but warned not to feed them and to watch your possessions as they can be very quick and pounce and take them. Sylvia does not like them as she has four puncture marks where she has been bitten.

After coming down in the cable car, went across the road from my hotel and had a feed of fish and chips.
Very interesting place Gibraltar and have fallen in love with the place – could easily live here.
There is so much history and just cannot write it all here. Dates back to 150,000-240,000 years ago. Neanderthal man inhabited Gibraltar. 711-1462 Moorish period (8 sieges). 1462 – 1704 Spanish period (3 sieges). 1309 – 1333 brief Spanish occupation. 1704 British (3 sieges)

Finally got some photos loaded up and now off to have a soak and off to bed!
